I’ve been playing Dungeons & Dragons (D&D) for almost ten years now—which, I realize, might not be as long as some of the seasoned connoisseurs out there. But in that time, I feel like I’ve honed my craft pretty well.
Storytelling has always been a passion of mine, so it makes sense that I’d take to being a Dungeon Master. Plus, I like being bossy. A leader of sorts. A Marimandona, as my grandma would put it.
I love what I do as a DM. It feeds my drive to create, my borderline-need for roleplay, and gives me an outlet for all the other weird little crafts and hobbies I pick up along the way. There’s this deeply satisfying sense of accomplishment that comes from building something—whether it’s a world, a character, or a story arc that has my players freaking out, laughing, or aghast (in a good way).
But sometimes, I get overwhelmed. Not really in a stressful way, but in an everything-all-at-once kind of way. There’s just so much that DMing touches—story, art, character design, improv, mechanics, feelings, props, maps, etc.—and it can be a lot to hold in your head and your heart all at once.
So that’s why I’m here, writing a blog.
It’s my outlet. A place to document the good and the bad, the highs and lows—the ever-changing, ever-growing work-in-progress that is my creative journey as a DM, artist, and writer.
Expect things to be a little chaotic around here. I’m a little chaotic. This is going to be an evolving, growing space filled with campaign reflections, art, unhinged thoughts at whatever hour they strike me, beating my head against roadblocks, and crafting adventures, amongst whatever else I decide going forward. It’ll be mostly D&D and TTRPG-related, but I’ll be sprinkling in some of my broader creative work too.
If you’re here, thanks for joining me for this crazy ride. I hope you find something that makes you feel a little more inspired, a little less alone, and a lot more excited to tell stories—whether at the table or beyond it.
